Often, the escape sequence from the terminal is the same when you hit Tab and Shift-Tab, say. Thus, Emacs obviously can't distinguish the keys. If your terminal is programmable, then you can tell it to send different escape sequences. After this, you can teach Emacs about them. -- A turnip curses Elvis
