This is as I understand it. The BibTeX dialect belongs to a certain file just like the encoding. Hence it sounds like a good idea to me if it could be set automatically via local variables. Today we have the option to use either bibstyles or biblatex, depending on the requirements of the document. IMO only few users will have a "bibstyle-only" or a "biblatex-only" environment. -- Uwe
