The truth is that, like any program that is not frozen, but evolving, the price to pay when you use the testing/development/unstable branch is to accept a certain degree of unstability. This is the case for Emacs as well. If what you need is stability, you should use the stable branch, which is, for that matter, the one that is installed by default.
