Numeric pad

The numeric pad works when I'm in a shell session, but not under Emacs
20.7.2, is there a command for this ? I didn't find this with Google.

Hit a key on the numeric keypad.  What do you expect to happen?  What
actually happens?  What does C-h l say after hitting that key?  What
does C-h c, then the key, say?

Does it help to hit the num-lock key?
