Hi Folks,

I am having trouble pressing C-X on my macbook - I use the left thumb to
hold down the ctrl key and then press the other key in the chord. Is there a
better way to do it?

Regards,
Kashyap

Unfortunately the mac only comes with 1 ctrl key. Several people dislike
pressing ctrl in general, and have changed some key bindings so that
capslock functions as ctrl and ctrl fxns as capslock.

Thanks Jai ... I'll give it a shot ... and perhaps try and get back to the
regular HP/Dell laptop :)

Kashyap

Dear Kashyap,

I have mapped Capslock to Control - which is very easy to do on the Mac: System Preferences, Keyboard, Modifier Keys (bottom right on the keyboard tab) - and find that more convenient than using the original Control key on any other keyboard I have used before. But this is a matter of taste to some degree, of course.

Warm regards,
 Stefan

I see. Is there a way to change the functionality of caps and ctrl in
emacs, or does it have to be a system-wide switch?

Jai

Dear Jai,

do you actually use capslock in the original way in some applications? - There might be a convenient way to map capslock for selected applications if you use tools like "Keyboard Maestro" (commercial). It is probably not possible to do within Emacs: if you press C-h k CAPSLOCK you do not get a key mapping (provided capslock is not mapped to some other modifier key) and - I think - this would be required for a mapping within Emacs (I might be wrong).

Warm regards,
 Stefan
