How do you invoke the MSYS Bash? If you use a desktop shortcut to
start a Bash window, then what do you have in the "Target" field of
that shortcut's Properties/Shortcut tab?

It is, right at the end of etc/profile:
export HOME LOGNAME MSYSTEM HISTFILE
