The conditions under which the bug happened are very rare, but when it did happen, we would in effect lose a portion of buffer text, and instead get binary nulls. Sounds familiar? So please try reproducing your problem after updating the repository from upstream, I hope that the problems will be gone. (If you are tracking master, wait until ab849b7 is merged to it, or apply it manually.)
