This bug report will be sent to the Free Software Foundation,
not to your local site managers!
Please write in English if possible, because the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators to read other languages for them.
Your bug report will be posted to the bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org mailing list,
and to the gnu.emacs.bug news group.
Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give
a recipe starting from `emacs -Q':
emacs -Q

I can understand some of these, like components of Tramp itself and some
utilities, like comint (btw, why is it loaded twice?), shell,
auth-source, time-date, regexp-opt. But why does it load message, parts
of gnus, epa, advice, and the rest of this gang? All this just to load
a local file in a root directory???
If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
`bt full' and `xbacktrace'.
For information about debugging Emacs, please read the file

It isn't. The first message is the start message, the second one the
done message (and ring is loaded in between as dependency).

Most if it is a dependency of tramp-imap.
Andreas.

Why is tramp-imap needed?

It is on my todo list. Currently, Tramp loads *all* subpackages for
different methods. It shall be rewritten, that subpackages are
autoloaded only when a given method is needed.
It is not trivial, so I don't know whether we shall do it before 23.2.
Best regards, Michael.

No, let's save it for post-23.2.

Maybe I shall try it for tramp-imap.el. This package loads the majority
of other packages, and it is not used widely (yet).
Best regards, Michael.

If this could be done safely enough to be included in v23.2, I'd
appreciate it.
Thanks.

Done. The bug shall be kept open for reorganization of Tramp's package
loading, post 23.2.
