I succeeded to reproduce recentering in HELLO, and fixed the problem which caused that on my machine. Please see if revno 100623 fixes the problem for you as well, i.e. there's no more recentering in HELLO (or elsewhere), with these settings: (setq scroll-preserve-screen-position 'always scroll-conservatively most-positive-fixnum scroll-step 0) (You can also set redisplay-dont-pause, if you want.)
