When I want to change the font size of a particular frame I can use:
    C-x C-+/C--

But is there a way to change the font size of the status line of a
particular frame?

Yes, you can customize the mode-line face. "M-x customize-face"
changes the font on all frames, so you will need to do this in Lisp,
using set-face-attribute, which can do that only for a specified
frame.
