Hello

this bug report should replace the one I sent yesterday. This time I
started emacs -Q and also deleted jit-lock file which shadowed the one
emacs ships. I send this bug reported after the error occurred

Thanks.

I'm sorry: I forgot that reporting the last keystrokes was removed
from the bug report "for privacy reasons". So please do show the
sequence of the commands needed to reproduce this problem, starting
from "emacs -Q".

Yes. Or simply describe in your own words what you did after starting
Emacs.

TIA

Sorry for the delay. Attached you find two short latex files for which
the problem occurs. I prefer to describe the steps.

    - emacs -Q

    - set-variable debug-on-error t

    - open old.tex via find-file

    - open new.tex via find-file

    - in new tex run ediff-regions-wordswise

    - enter buffer new.tex and buffer old.tex

    - the error described occurs.
