When I start emacs, it doesn't eval (desktop-read), I have to run it 
using M-x (desktop-read). Any help?

The answer to that is in what comes before that expression.  maybe it
signals an error or maybe Emacs doesn't find desktop.el or maybe
something else goes wrong.
