Robert,

Can we please finalize the changes discussed in

  https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=39799

and land that on master?  AFAIR, we had almost everything figured out
and patches (almost) ready to be installed?  What is left to do before
this can land?
