If you (or someone else) ever consider this again, please make sure it
doesn't break the MS-Windows build which uses the ported GNU Make (I'd
expect that to be the absolute majority of Windows builds nowadays).
The GNUMakefile you proposed assumes a Posix system, but GNU Make will
always run it in preference to just [Mm]akefile, regardless of the
host OS.
