We are talking about people who read emacs-devel, because we'd prefer detecting any such problems before we release them. So I don't see how is that "much broader" than those who track Emacs development and can keep several past versions for comparison. And even if you are talking about the released versions, the normal Emacs installation procedure leaves the previous binary available for invocation; you need to explicitly "make uninstall" to remove it. Does installing from a binary distro (as opposed to from sources built locally) remove previous versions nowadays?
