Maybe I'm blind, but here it always returns nil, both in the code and
in practice.

My bad. I should have tested.
Was misled by this:
http://stackoverflow.com/q/33501149/729907
which uses this sexp:
(list (set-mouse-position (selected-frame) 4 4) (mouse-position))
Presumably, `progn' was meant instead of `list'.
I'll close this bug.
