* Emacs 23 window coming to front?

I recently upgraded from Emacs 21 to 23 (under CentOS 5.6). If I partly obscure
the Emacs window (say with an xterm) and then start typing in Emacs, the Emacs
window jumps to the front.

The new Emacs is the only process that does this (i.e., I don't have a general
X/KDE setting that's doing this for all windows). I would like to turn this off
but I don't see how. Any help?
