Hi,

how do I connect my PC (MS Windows XP) with a Unix Server using 
telnet/ssh using Emacs?

PS: I am using GNU Emacs 22.0.99.1 (i386-mingw-nt5.1.2600) of 2007-04-24 
on LENNART-69DE564 (patched) on MS Windows XP. I have also installed Cygwin.

I recommend PuTTY.

How about: C-h i m Emacs RET s telnet RET ?

Somewhat off topic, i was playing around today with my cingular 8125
cell phone,found a working version of PuTTY for it, and can now connect
to my server running multy-tty Emacs and use it through the cell phone
with the only issue being that i haven't yet figured out how to send a
META escape character... which, i suppose, is a fairly significant
issue, but it's a start.

What's wrong with ESC ?  Typing from a cellphone is slow anyway, so
ESC-x vs META-x is not going to be an issue, I think.

Oh, well, i don't have an ESC on the cell, otherwise i would.  I am
thinking about getting a bluetooth keyboard for it, though.  There is an
onscreen keyboard you can use that does have CTRL, but no ALT or ESC.
The hardware keyboard that slides out with this model is generally nice,
but lacks all three.

How can I connect via telnet/ftp to a remote server via Emacs?
I'd like to use the commands
M-x telnet and C-x C-f /<user>@<server>:/   .

telnet is a somewhat difficult beast under Windows

have a look at http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/windows/faq8.html

i can confirm that jtelnet works, although it doesn't seem to be 
maintained (and once up and running it seems to use a lot of CPU cycles)
