This is probably a FAQ, but I didn't find a ready answer anywhere. Is
there some place where I can get a tarball corresponding to the
current CVS version of emacs?
I believe there are .debs available, but since I'm running Fedora 8, I
can't use those straightaway.

CVS is no longer being updated, Emacs uses Bazaar now.
bzr checkout --lightweight http://bzr.savannah.gnu.org/r/emacs/trunk
will get you the latest version in the least time; other Bazaar options
are available.
There are no official snapshot tarfiles, but you may be able to find an
unofficial one somewhere.

Thanks! This works fine. Have done ./configure and am currently
running a make.
