switching to jde-mode ?

It's difficult. Why do you want to do that? If the indentation is
wrong, you could just customize that until it's right...

I am writing a JDEE add-in tool to display info about type at
point using introspection. I did not want to force use of JDEE
mode in the output buffer of my tool.
The following three forms seem to do what I asked for.
(set-syntax-table java-mode-syntax-table)
(derived-mode-set-syntax-table 'jde-mode)
(jde-setup-syntax-coloring)

`derived-mode-set-syntax-table' is an internal function which should hence
not be used by packages other than derived.el. As a matter of fact,
it is now obsolete in Emacs-21 and is only kept around for backward
compatibility with code byte-compiled with Emacs-20.
What do you need it for ?
