This may ask you passphrase several times: gpg --status-fd 2 --decrypt test.gpg But pgg-gpg uses something like: gpg --passphrase-fd 0 --status-fd 2 --decrypt test.gpg By the way, I think you would be happy if you were using M-x epa-decrypt-file instead. It can handle this case smarter -- i.e. it will ask you the correct passphrase again if you mistyped it ;-) Regards, -- Daiki Ueno
