* write-region to a negative offset

It seems like write-region only accepts a positive offset from the beginning of the file.

I'd like to add an xml block at a given position relative to the end of the file. I'd rather add to a negative offset from the end of the file since that part is static.

Is there a way to do that that does not involve finding the value of point at the place I'd like to insert the block ?
