Although I tend to agree with you that this is not good style, evidently = not=20 everyone shares our tastes. In any event there's no harm translating the= se to=20 curved quotes, as is done in current Emacs master. > please be specific about what change you have in mind here. Nothing fancy. Basically, the =E2=80=98message=E2=80=99 function should = pass its format=20 argument through =E2=80=98substitute-command-keys=E2=80=99 before using t= he format, so that=20 quotation marks are displayed according to user preference.
