Even if we could get it to mostly work, it'd be a recipe for confusion. We do need to prettify them unambiguously in help buffers, in diagnostics, in menus (I just discovered this one), and probably in other places. I haven't had time yet to investigate Dmitry's prototype for prettifying them in help buffers yet, but plan to do this soon.
