Curved single quotes in docstrings do not crash older Em= acs.=20 They're treated as ordinary characters, much as curved double quotes or a= ccented=20 letters in words like "Bah=C3=A1'=C3=AD". The main downside in older Ema= cs is that=20 symbols quoted via curved quotes are not highlighted or otherwise treated= as=20 special in *Help* buffers.
