I see. From the original report, I figured the problem was only with the 
Hg backend.

Instead of `debug-on-quit', if quitting by itself doesn't lead to 
crashes, you can try ELP or M-x profiler start.

Nope, I don't see the freeze here. It isn't particularly slow either.
