BTW, as a *partial* workaround, I had added this to my .emacs:

(global-unset-key (quote [ns-power-off])) ; prevent 'aqua'/'ns'
> prompt-related crashes on exit

(global-unset-key (quote [(menu-bar) file exit-emacs])) ; prevent
> 'aqua'/'ns' prompt-related crashes on exit
