Has there been any progress on this?  Should I try stepping
around the loop and send in what GDB says?

Jorgen Schaefer said it was like his bug, Bug#17561, which it appears 
was fixed in the trunk a couple of days ago.  So if you're using the 
trunk I suggest updating to trunk bzr 117201 or later.
