Sure, here's the patch I applied to the trunk.  You may need to alter it 
for 24.3.  One way is to patch your configure.ac, then run ./autogen.sh 
(on a system with modern tools) before you run 'configure' on your 
ancient host.  Another way, which might be easier, is to apply the 
corresponding change by hand to 24.3's 'configure', and run that; that 
won't require the modern tools.
