It's indeed the combination of a default blinking cursor (the one from `blink-cursor-mode' namely) _and_ the cursor jump that horrifies me. If you are used to a non-blinking cursor and `show-paren-mode' like me, such effects can be distracting. But I certainly don't want to impose my habits on anyone. martin
