This bug report will be sent to the Bug-GNU-Emacs mailing list
and the GNU bug tracker at debbugs.gnu.org. Please check that
the From: line contains a valid email address. After a delay of up
to one day, you should receive an acknowledgment at that address.

Please write in English if possible, as the Emacs maintainers
usually do not have translators for other languages.

Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug, and
the precise symptoms of the bug. If you can, give a recipe
starting from `emacs -Q':

I have been using Python mode with the Python shell configured for
IPython (as explained in the comments in python.el) for a while with
Emacs 24.2.92 and now with 24.3rc2. It has worked perfectly fine in
24.2.92, but in 24.3rc2 I get frequent display problems which
unfortunately I have not yet been able to make reproducible. The
trouble always starts with the display of a Python
traceback. Somewhere in the middle of the traceback, terminal escape
characters (used by IPython for coloring) are shown instead of being
executed. Here is an example (a screen capture is attached):

/Users/hinsen/Programs/MMTK/main_python_path/MMTK/Trajectory.pyc in __getattr__(self, name)
    254 var = self.trajectory.file.variables[name]
    255 except KeyError:
--> 256             raise AttributeError("no variable named " + name)
    257 if 'atom_number' in var.dimensions:

If Emacs crashed, and you have the Emacs process in the gdb debugger,
please include the output from the following gdb commands:
    `bt full' and `xbacktrace'.

Any ideas about recent changes which might have caused this?

The most relevant change introduced after Oct 10 2012 is in revno
111207, but it is so small that it is unlikely it broken the thing.

FWIW I'm using the pdb tracking feature extensively on GNU/Linux and
never experienced such problems, BUT notice OSX comint processes tend to
work rather weird when compared to other systems, and that could be
related to libedit. See:

     + http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=10295#52

My feeling is that, if this is a regression, we should check changes
that happened in comint rather than in python.el itself.

Regards,
Fabián.

Thanks for checking, I can well believe this could be some more Mac OS X
oddness. If you don't see it on GNU/Linux, we won't worry about this for
24.3

There have been no comint changes since 24.2.92.

Looks like a broken filter.
Code arrives, while the filter doesn't work, letting chars pass.

Might it be possible to have some example code which triggers the bug?
Also having a look at ipython-settings might be of interest.

Always learning from python.el, :)

Andreas

Almost 10 months happened without OP's insight on this and it remained
not reproducible (for me at least). Closing for the sake of keeping the
tracker clean. Feel free to reopen (with a recipe, hopefully) in case
this still happens.

Regards,
Fabián.
