"bootstrap-clean" removes Makefile, so the command "$(MAKE) $(MFLAGS) Makefile" would be run without Makefile being present. This won't work unless GNU Make is being used. Also, I don't see why the "touch configure" is needed. autogen.sh (or autogen/copy_autogen) should create 'configure'.
