Emacs pretest 23.0.92 is now available; this is the third pretest for
what will be the Emacs 23.1 release. You can download it via FTP, at
the following location:
http://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-23.0.92.tar.gz
The xdelta against the previous pretest, 23.0.91, is here:
http://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-23.0.91-23.0.92.xdelta
Pretesters: please send an email to me reporting success or failure on
your build platform. In addition, please report bugs via M-x
report-emacs-bugs, or send an email to emacs-pretest-bug@gnu.org. For
questions, please email emacs-devel@gnu.org.
Thank you.

Because I don't know if this is a bug or not, I'm sending the message here.
This build opens up TWO processes. One being the main emacs application, and
the other opens in what resembles a DOS screen with nothing but a cursor
that I can't seem to do anything with except move it around the screen.
If I try to close that, both processes terminate. I don't recall this ever
happening in previous builds.
However, in a previous version I had a colour scheme problem which still
holds true.
For example, the opening line on the title screen: "Welcome to GNU Emacs,
one component of the GNU operating system."
This is in red, which is fine, except for "GNU Emacs" and "GNU" which is in
a bright turquoise shade. So are the links and the build information.
This makes it VERY difficult to read and I'm wondering how to change the
default colours. I know it's probably there somewhere but I'm having
trouble finding it.
True, I'm not fluent in Emacs but I still don't mind using beta versions,
and, the colour problem is not limited to this version anyhow, but also of
22.3.1 as well.
Prior to this I never had a problem.

That's surprising---by default, the color for links should be blue on
bright backgrounds. It's cyan on dark backgrounds, but cyan should be
perfectly visible on dark backgrounds. Have you performed any color
customizations?

The problem was a C99 style mid-block variable declaration. Obviously
gcc accepts this, or it would have been picked up earlier, but I'm
surprised not to have heard about it from others using a pre-C99 compiler.

Builds without errors on Fedora 11 Beta on i686.
gcc-4.4.0-0.31.i586
glibc-2.9.90-11.i686
libX11-1.2-3.fc11.i586
libXft-2.1.13-2.fc11.i586
freetype-2.3.9-3.fc11.i586
gtk2-2.16.0-1.fc11.i586
The mktime timeout is still there.

Don't forget libotf! I maintain that for fedora specifically to support
emacs.

m17n-flt is necessary too to utilize libotf for Complex Text

I'm using m17n-lib-devel package on fedora. I assume that is sufficient?

Ah, yes, libm17n-flt should be included in that package.

Current INSTALL has this section. What should be added?
------------------------------------------------------------
* Complex Text Layout support libraries
Emacs needs the optional libraries "m17n-db", "libm17n-flt", "libotf"
to correctly display such complex scripts as Indic and Khmer.
On some systems, particularly GNU/Linux, these libraries may be
already present or available as additional packages. Note that if
there is a separate `dev' or `devel' package, for use at compilation
time rather than run time, you will need that as well as the
corresponding run time package; typically the dev package will contain
header files and a library archive. Otherwise, you can download and
build libraries from sources.
The sources of these libraries are available by anonymous CVS from
cvs.m17n.org.

configure it with the option "--without-gui".

Sorry, I didn't see it because it's (IMO) too far from the beginning.
How about moving it before the section that talks about intlfonts?

Ok, I've just move that section to the earlier place.

I've updated the FreeBSD port of 'emacs-devel' to use the new pretest:
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=133294
It should be soon available through the normal Ports tree, after it
passes review and is committed to CVS :)
