Hi. I open a frame using an emacs launcher and the background is black
and the text is white as I set in my ~/.emacs file.
 From that frame I open a new frame using C-x 5 2.
The new frame opens but does not match my ~/.emacs file. It has default
settings.
Sensei,
Share your wisdom.
Mr. Etter

But what's the variable name for cursor color? And for font size? I
looked for these in the "Help" and some googling, but no help.

What did you google for?
'emacs default-frame-list cursor' and
'emacs default-frame-list font' gave me some very good hits,
say, on the emacswiki.

But...

Emacs has sooo much info ... use it!
Always there, always uptodate.

a) * `C-h r'
   * i "cursor"
   * couple of ","s
,----
| You can customize the cursor's color, and whether it blinks, using the
| `cursor' Custom group (*note Easy Customization::).
`----
so `M-x customize-group RET cursor RET' is one way.

b) I already cited (elisp) Creating Frames
   * `u' ... look around ... Frame Parameters sounds good
   * Window Frame Parameters sounds good
   * (elisp) Font and Color Parameters
   Bingo!

... Which also says:

,----[ (info "(elisp)Font and Color Parameters") ]
| The following frame parameters are semi-obsolete in that they are
| automatically equivalent to particular face attributes of particular
| faces
`----

Use frame parameter `cursor-color' (in `default-frame-alist').

> And for font size?

That's part of the font definition - frame parameter `font' (in
`default-frame-alist').

If you like what you saw in your black frame, then just do `C-h v
frame-parameters' to see what the current frame parameters are, and set those
you want in `default-frame-alist'.

> I looked for these in the "Help" and some googling,

Look in the Emacs manual (`C-h r', or `C-h i' and choose `Emacs'). Use `i' to
look for something that is in the index. E.g. `i font TAB', `i cursor TAB'. Or
look in the Elisp manual: `i frame parameters'.

Or use the search field on Emacs Wiki: http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/SiteMap.
