Emacs pretest 23.2.90 is now available for download via FTP, at the
following location:

  ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/emacs/pretest/emacs-23.2.90.tar.gz

This is the first pretest for what will become Emacs 23.3, which is
mostly a bugfix release.

Please send me an email reporting success or failure on your build
platform. Report bugs via M-x report-emacs-bugs, or email
bug-gnu-emacs@gnu.org. For questions, email emacs-devel@gnu.org.

Thank you for helping test Emacs.

The NEWS file has several +++ and --- markings. Were they forgotten
inadvertently, or do they mean the docs still "need work"?

Also, what's the plan (if any) regarding documentation review?

The +++ and --- will be there until just before the end of the pretest.
I hope to start working on the documentation this weekend, but any help
is naturally welcome. Currently, we need to document the NEWS items not
currently marked +++ or --- in the Emacs and Emacs Lisp manual.

As this is a mostly bugfix release, it is sufficient to document the
changes described in NEWS. It is not necessary to proofread the entire
set of manuals. (I'll proofread the affected sections before the
release; this will probably mostly be the chapter on VC.)

The pretest builds and runs on Windows, however `make dist' isn't a
target? I'm not able to package up the pretest running that command in
the /nt directory.

The "make dist" target was added to nt/makefile.w32-in only in the
trunk.

Is there a problem with generating the Windows binaries for the 23.2.9x
pretest the old way (i.e., however it was done before July)?

In May I was copying admin/nt/makedist.bat from the trunk to the top
directory of the pretests and release and using it to produce the
distributions (not the binaries in them).

You shouldn't need to copy the file, just use it where it is in the
checked out tree. If it is no longer there in trunk, you'll need to get
a working copy of the emacs23 branch first though.

Probably not, but backporting the change to the 23.2 branch should not
be too bad I think. I am not sure why we didn't do that back in July.

Thank you, Jason.

I don't have enough time to do it now (just dropping in), but tonight or
tomorrow morning the pretest Windows binaries will be published.

Thanks you guys.

Oof---It's all a distant memory ...

Um, yeah, I remember having to copy makedist.bat to c:\ in order for
make to find the distfiles in admin\nt.

Now, however, it didn't find ...

WARNINGS for files:

emacs-23.2.90\bin : The system cannot find the file specified.

emacs-23.2.90\etc\DOC-X : The system cannot find the file specified.

Ooor, maybe I don't know what I am doing. But I gotta go to sleep and
work on this when I return from the studio.

The pretest was built and runs successfully on Windows. Binaries have
been uploaded to
