All calls have the same cost.  What they do is to clear properties in the 
font.  These properties later on gets restored again.  But the distinction 
between user specified font properties and matched font properties gets lost, 
so what the user specified initially is lost.  This makes re-applying the font 
when some parameter (dpi, hinting etc.) has changed impossible.

I'm trying to address this by another mechanism.
