What do you mean by "vertical line"? Are you just looking for a displayed vertical line, to remind you of the word-wrap column? If so, there are solutions here: http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/HighlightCurrentColumn. They let you display a vertical line at any column.
