Subject: Compiling Emacs 22 on HP-UX 11.31 IA64
Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2007 12:55:43 +0100	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <474D6551.1949.B5E9187@Ulrich.Windl.rkdvmks1.ngate.uni-regensburg.de> (raw)

Hi,

I'd like to have GNU EMacs 22 on HP-UX 11i V3 (11.31) on IA64 (Intel Itanium2).
The available packages for Emacs just cause a "Memory fault" when being started,
so I tryied my luck myself...

After some tweaking I got as far a temacs loading and dumping, but the new file
format seems unknown:

[...]
Loading emacs-lisp/float-sup...
((54943 . 11990) (10969 . 0) (565 . 72) 73474 161152 (63 . 9) (18 . 12) (5411 .\
 1960))
Loading vc-hooks...
Loading ediff-hook...
((55993 . 10940) (11073 . 0) (566 . 71) 74641 161169 (63 . 9) (18 . 12) (5476 .\
 1895))

Dumping under names emacs and emacs-22.1.1
a.out file doesn't have legal magic number
make[1]: *** [emacs] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/nobody/GNU/emacs-22.1/ia64-hp-hpux11.31/src'
make: *** [src] Error 2
% file src/temacs
src/temacs: ELF-32 executable object file - IA64
-------------------------

Two notes:
1) There exists a src/emacs file of size zero after that, so a rebuild is not
tried when starting make again
2) Wasn't there a security problem with emacs 22.1 recently (CVE-2007-5795)? The
latest source still seems to have it...

Ulrich
