I like the table possibility in org-mode. But I would like a general heading
possibility. Like:
|--------------+-----------------|
| general description |
|--------------+-----------------|
| field1 | field2 |
|--------------+-----------------|
| description1 | value2 |
| . | . |
| . | . |
| . | . |
| descriptionn | valuen |
|--------------+-----------------|
| total | vsum(@II..@III) |
|--------------+-----------------|
Is this possible?

No, this is not possible. You can do this using the table.el package
that is also
part of Emacs 22, but in other ways these tables have much less
features that
org-mode's (for example, they cannot compute.
Or, why don't you just put the general header over the table by hand,
like
General Header
| table | fields |start | here |
Hope this helps

I was afraid for that. ;-}

That is not an option for me. I use it, because they compute.

Is an option. The only problem is tathat when the table changes, I have to
change the header also, but I can life with that.

It does.
