What's the big deal, all I wanted to do was expand /ho to /home, and
it goes and loads ange-ftp, like I'm a big daddy or something.
$ emacs
C-x C-f / h o TAB
Say, how do I tell emacs that I don't get out on the net much and
there's no need to load ange-ftp unless I really type something that
smells ftpish?

You call that a bug report?

>From the "Remote Files" node of the Emacs manual (indexed by ange-ftp):
| You can entirely turn off the FTP file name feature by removing the
| entries `ange-ftp-completion-hook-function' and
| `ange-ftp-hook-function' from the variable `file-name-handler-alist'.
| You can turn off the feature in individual cases by quoting the file
| name with `/:' (*note Quoted File Names::).
Next time, try gnu.emacs.help
