...which of course simplifies to

(defvaralias 'viper-xemacs-p (featurep 'xemacs))

which is of course identical to `set' in interface, though it only
supports booleans (use "(not (not val))" to convert).  That's ...
intensely and simultaneously amusing and disgusting.
