You have outsmarted yourself.   Use M-x compile instead of M-x grep.

I would use quotes around expression:

        ... -e 'TLS main*|colrm 77 #'

The /dev/null is unavoidable (because of old grep/egrep implementations)

(I was only looking for "TLS", and my # was purposely naked to wipe out
all following junk, i.e., /dev/null.)
