I believe such a function must need a separate key-binding to distinguish it from the real dabbrev-expand that of course can be performed the words the string content is built up of. I miss this feature especially often when using assoc() in elisp coding. Mayby the template mechanism could give hints to such a function. I then believe dabbrev-expand-thing-at-point should a good name for a function merges all these logic into one interactive function and upon call asks the user for the expand scope: literal, string, sexp, etc. /Nordl=F6w
