latex for Octave code

I am using latex for Octave code and emacs and when applying lstlisting pi^2
this form appears like pi^2 with 2 as supraindex.

Then, when applying M-x font-lock-mode the text gets without marks.

I want to know how to correct this, with 2 no supraindex and maintaining the
text marked?

ok, resolved this with apt-get install auctex
