The shell in Terminal uses a different mechanism for file name =20 completion than GNU Emacs. Is this the answer you wanted to read? =20 Both mechanisms choose from the same pool of HFS+ decomposed and =20 deranged character strings. And you never tried in Finder, best when you have at =20 least one file starting with a or A and at least another one starting =20= with =E4 or =C4, just to type - not in the search hole! =AD a or =E4? = Maybe =20 followed by one or more TABs? (Try both! Does a find the =E4 file? Does =20= =E4 find the a and the =E4 file?) But to chemists =20 solutions are things that are still all mixed up.
