Try to open a png file with gnome-open from within emacs (start-process "file-opening" "*file opening*" "gnome-open" "/t/e.m.png") ;; 2. ... with xdg-open. (start-process "file-opening" "*file opening*" "xdg-open" "/t/e.m.png") It just writes `Process file-opening finished' in the *file opening* buffer and image viewer is not launched. How can I make this work? They work in the shell. The image viewer, eog or Eye of Gnome, is launched if I enter the following in a terminal: $ gnome-open /t/e.m.png $ xdg-open /t/e.m.png start-process starts eog fine from the following code: (start-process "file-opening" "*file opening*" "eog" "/t/e.m.png") It also starts nautilus and gedit fine. (start-process "file-opening" "*file opening*" "nautilus" "/home/") (start-process "file-opening" "*file opening*" "gedit" "hello.txt") -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/start-process-doesn%27t-do-gnome-open-or-xdg-open.-tp23760016p23760016.html Sent from the Emacs - Help mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
