Sure, these are the more interesting cases. Other such examples
include AUCTeX, SLIME, and Pymacs. Installation is trivial if a
package consists of elisp files only.

That's why there are distros that set up things such that different
pieces of software fit together, and work for the user out of the box.
Of course, it will help if the package is configurable and can adapt
to different environments.
