I went back to emacs-26.1-rc1, and it crashed in the same manner. I tried to go back to emacs-26.0.90, but this older emacs didn't run mew (complaining about an unsupported image mode; I guess I would have to adjust the build options but I was too lazy). So it seems to be an old problem. How to proceed? Werner
