For me, it's "regular enough". And I came from ten years of first vi, then elvis, then vim. I think there are difficult tradeoffs to take, and Emacs is taking them pretty well, overall. To arrive at "better" (default!) key bindings we'd have first to develop an idea which is "consensual" enough to serve as that, then carefully move in that direction (kind of what *you* have been doing all that years, so thank you for that :-) So I think this would be more a social task at first.
