Hi,
Sorry for this question which seems to be a very old problem
but I found no satisfying answe on the web.
Is it possible to configure ange ftp to use ncftp program ? I
set ange-ftp-ftp-program-name to ncftp and
ange-ftp-ftp-program-args to nil since options for ftp did not
seem to be suitable for ncftp. Maybe other flags has to be
supplied here. Anyway it does not work as if ange ftp were not
able to parse output provided by ncftp.
Regards
Pierre

Indeed, ncftp does not return error messages as expected by
ange-ftp. See this:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
ncftp / > get xxx
get xxx: server said: Failed to open file.
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
ftp> get xxx
local: xxx remote: xxx
200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV.
550 Failed to open file.
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
So I doubt it will be simple to train ange-ftp understanding ncftp.

Hi Michael,
Completely clear. Hence the simplest way to solve my problem is
to install the standard ftp client that is not on my system.
Thanks

Pierre

No I do not think so. I want to access files that are on ftp
servers and I do not have control on the server. For my own
use sure that I daily use tramp with ssh but I am not in this
configuration now. Anyway it was very simple to install a ftp
client no problem. Do not know why it was not installed by
default by the clfs but can be added without any problem.
Thanks again
